What this diagram shows

A room section showing a ceiling with recessed downlights and their overlapping light cones. The spacing between lights (S) equals the ceiling height divided by 2, and the first row sits a half-spacing (S over 2) off the wall. An 8-foot ceiling gives about 4-foot spacing with the first row about 2 feet off the wall. Spacing gives even light; a separate foot-candle check confirms it is bright enough.
