Introduction

Remodel Calculators ("we," "our," or "us") operates remodelcalculators.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our construction calculator tools, create an account, or subscribe to our Pro plan.

Our calculators are free to use without an account. If you create an account or subscribe to Pro, we collect additional personal information as described below. We are committed to handling your data responsibly.

Information We Collect

Anonymous Usage Data (All Visitors)

When you use our calculators without an account, we collect anonymous data:

  • Which calculators are accessed and how often
  • Calculation inputs and results (not linked to any identity)
  • Page views and navigation patterns
  • General browser and device information
  • Timestamps of calculations

This data is used to improve calculator accuracy and site functionality. It is not linked to your name, email, or IP address.

Account Data (Registered Users)

If you create a free or Pro account, we collect and store:

  • Your name and email address
  • Authentication method (email/password or Google OAuth)
  • Account tier (free or Pro)
  • Saved calculator projects (inputs and results)
  • Your business profile information (company name, address, phone, email, website, license number — if you choose to enter it)
  • Client and job site information saved with projects or in your Client Address Book (name, company, phone, email, address — if you choose to enter it)
  • Saved contractor forms (quotes, invoices, purchase orders, change orders)
  • Your Price Book entries (custom material and labor unit prices you choose to save)
  • Custom Terms & Conditions presets you save to your profile
  • Client portal share tokens and the timestamp of when a client first opens a shared link
  • Client Accept/Decline responses submitted via the client portal
  • Client e-signature images (base64-encoded PNG) captured when a client draws and submits a signature via the client portal
  • Account creation date and last updated timestamp

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text. If you sign in with Google, we do not receive or store your Google password.

Payment Data

All payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe and applies only to Pro subscriptions. The calculators and the project cost estimate are free and do not require payment. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or full payment details on our servers.

For Pro subscribers, we store:

  • Your Stripe customer ID (used to manage your subscription)
  • Your Stripe subscription ID
  • Subscription status (active, canceled, past due)

How We Use Information

We use the data we collect to:

  • Operate and improve our calculators
  • Authenticate your account and maintain your session
  • Store and retrieve your saved projects and contractor forms
  • Process Pro subscription payments and manage billing
  • Send transactional emails (subscription confirmation, payment receipts) — we do not send marketing emails unless you opt in
  • Send contractor documents (quotes, invoices, etc.) to client email addresses you provide when you use the Email to Client feature — these emails are sent on your behalf and the client email addresses are used solely for that delivery
  • Generate private shareable portal links so clients can view documents, respond Accept/Decline, and optionally draw an e-signature — these links are secured with a unique random token and require no account
  • Store client e-signature images associated with your form records when a client signs via the portal
  • Analyze anonymous usage to identify technical issues and improve functionality

We do not sell, rent, or share account or saved-project data with third parties for marketing purposes. The one exception is the optional contractor matching service described below, where information you voluntarily submit through a “Get Matched” form is shared with our lead network partner and matched local professionals so they can contact you about your project. Separately, some calculators display affiliate links to Angi (service) and Ace Hardware (retail); those links send you to the partner’s own website and do not transmit your personal information from us — see “Affiliate Links” below.

Your Business & Client Data (Pro Users)

Pro users can save their business profile, a Client Address Book, a Price Book of custom material and labor rates, and optionally associate client information with saved projects. Here is exactly how we handle that data:

  • It's yours. Your business profile and your client data belong to you. We store it solely to provide the auto-fill convenience you expect — nothing else.
  • We never read or use it for our own purposes. We do not analyze your client lists, cross-reference them with other accounts, use them for marketing, or share them with any third party.
  • It is never shared between accounts. Your data is strictly isolated to your account. No other user or company can see it.
  • It is not sold. We do not sell, rent, license, or monetize your business information or your clients' information in any form.
  • You control it. You can delete individual projects (and the client data stored with them) at any time from your dashboard. You can update or clear your business profile at any time. Account deletion permanently removes all of it.
  • Access is authenticated. All API endpoints that read or write this data require an active authenticated session. Your data is never publicly accessible.

We built these features to save you time. Your Client Address Book fills in client info automatically on every form. Your Price Book populates line items with your real rates. Client email addresses you provide when using the Email to Client feature are used solely to deliver the specific document you sent — they are not stored separately, analyzed, or used for any other purpose.

Client portal & e-signatures: When you share a form via the client portal, we store a unique token, a timestamp of when the client first views the link, their Accept/Decline response, and — if they choose to sign — their drawn signature as a PNG image. All of this data is scoped to your account, visible only to you, and is deleted when you revoke the link or delete the form. We do not analyze client signature images, extract identity information from them, or share them with any third party.

Contractor Matching Service

Remodel Calculators offers an optional service that connects homeowners with local home service professionals. If you submit a request through one of our “Get Matched” or “Connect with Local Pros” forms, please understand the following:

Information Collected

  • Your name, email address, phone number, and ZIP code
  • Project details you choose to provide (project type, timeframe, additional notes)
  • Your IP address and browser user agent at the time of submission
  • A TrustedForm certificate (a third-party record of your form session, used to document your consent)
  • The text of the consent statement you agreed to and the timestamp of submission

How This Information Is Shared

When you submit a matching request, your information is shared with our lead network partner Networx and with up to four (4) local home service professionals selected by Networx based on your project category and location. These professionals (and their authorized agents and service providers) may contact you by phone, text message, or email at the contact information you provided to discuss your project. They may use autodialed and prerecorded calls and text messages, and they may contact you even if your number is on a state or federal Do Not Call list, because you provided express written consent at the time of submission.

TrustedForm

We use TrustedForm (operated by ActiveProspect) on the matching request page. TrustedForm records your interaction with the form and issues a certificate documenting your consent. This is an industry-standard compliance tool. See ActiveProspect’s privacy policy.

Your Control

The matching service is optional. You can use any of our calculators without submitting a matching request. If you do submit a request and later wish to stop being contacted, you may:

  • Reply STOP to any text message from a contractor to opt out of further texts from that contractor
  • Ask any caller to remove your number from their list
  • Contact us using the information at the bottom of this policy to request that we delete your submitted lead from our records

Note: once your information has been shared with Networx and partner professionals, those parties retain the records under their own privacy policies and retention practices, which we do not control.

Affiliate Links (Angi & Ace Hardware)

Some calculators display two kinds of affiliate links after you generate an estimate: service affiliate links to Angi (“Hire it out?” / “Compare quotes from top-rated pros”) and retail affiliate links to Ace Hardware (“Buy at Ace” buttons on materials and recommended tools). Both are separate from the Networx contractor-matching forms described above. The same privacy principle applies to both: clicking sends you to the partner’s own website, and any information you provide there is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

Angi (via Commission Junction)

Angi (formerly Angie’s List / HomeAdvisor) referral links are provided through the Commission Junction (CJ) affiliate network.

  • Your information is submitted to Angi, not to us. Clicking the button sends you to Angi’s own website. Any name, email, phone number, or project details you enter there are provided directly to Angi and are governed by Angi’s privacy policy. We do not collect, receive, or store the personal information you submit on Angi.
  • Referral tracking. When you click, the Commission Junction network records the referral (typically by setting a cookie) so that we can be credited. If you submit a service request on Angi, we may earn a referral fee, at no additional cost to you.
  • We see only aggregate data. From CJ we receive non-identifying performance data — such as the number of clicks and whether a referral resulted in a service request — never your personal information.

Ace Hardware (via FlexOffers)

On certain calculators we display product recommendations and quantity-aware “Buy at Ace” buttons next to materials and tools. These link to Ace Hardware (acehardware.com) through the FlexOffers affiliate network.

  • No personal information is sent from us. When you click a “Buy at Ace” button, you are forwarded to Ace’s product page. The only information passed along is anonymous campaign identifiers (which calculator you came from, which product card you clicked, and the recommended quantity) so FlexOffers can credit the referral. Your name, email, address, and payment details are entered directly on Ace’s website and are governed by Ace’s privacy policy.
  • Referral tracking. The FlexOffers network records the click (typically by setting a cookie or appending tracking parameters to the destination URL). If you complete a purchase on Ace’s site, we may earn a commission. You pay the same price as any other Ace customer.
  • We see only aggregate data. From FlexOffers we receive non-identifying reporting — number of clicks per calculator and product, and whether a referral resulted in a sale — never your personal information, cart contents, or purchase details.
  • Quantity stepper. The buy buttons include a quantity adjuster set to the value your calculator computed. The number you select is included as an anonymous campaign parameter purely for our own analytics on whether users adjust the recommendation; it is not personal information.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Maintain your login session (authentication cookie)
  • Track anonymous calculator usage patterns
  • Analyze site traffic via Google Analytics
  • Improve site functionality
  • Attribute affiliate referrals to Angi via the Commission Junction network when you click a “compare quotes” button (a CJ cookie set as you leave our site for Angi’s)
  • Attribute affiliate referrals to Ace Hardware via the FlexOffers network when you click a “Buy at Ace” button (a FlexOffers cookie set as you leave our site for acehardware.com)

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will prevent you from staying logged in to your account but will not prevent basic calculator usage.

Third-Party Services

Database

User accounts, saved projects, contractor profiles, Client Address Books, Price Books, and forms are stored in a Neon serverless PostgreSQL database. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. See Neon's privacy policy.

Payment Processing

Stripe handles all Pro subscription payments. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. We never receive or store your raw card details. See Stripe's privacy policy.

Authentication

Account authentication uses NextAuth. If you sign in with Google, your sign-in is processed by Google OAuth. We receive only your name, email, and profile image from Google — not your password. See Google's privacy policy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to track anonymous calculator usage and site performance. Anonymous calculation inputs are also logged to Google Sheets. Neither service receives personally identifiable information from non-account visitors.

Hosting

Our website is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may collect technical information necessary to provide hosting services. See Vercel's privacy policy.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including:

  • All data transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption in transit)
  • Database encryption at rest (Neon PostgreSQL)
  • bcrypt password hashing — passwords are never stored in plain text
  • Authenticated API access — all personal and client data requires a valid session token
  • Row-level isolation — queries are scoped to the authenticated user's ID, so one user's data cannot be accessed by another
  • Stripe PCI-DSS compliant payment infrastructure

No internet-based system is 100% secure. While we take strong precautions, we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account and to only store client data you are comfortable with on a cloud-hosted platform.

Your Rights

If you have a registered account, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — update your account information at any time through your dashboard
  • Deletion — request that we delete your account and all associated data (projects, forms, profile)
  • Portability — request an export of your saved project data
  • Cancellation — cancel your Pro subscription at any time through the Stripe billing portal (accessible from your dashboard)

To exercise these rights, contact us using the information below. Anonymous usage data (not linked to an account) cannot be identified or deleted.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us to have it removed.

External Links

Our website contains links to external websites, including affiliate product links and industry standard references. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. Review the privacy policies of any external websites you visit.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as we add features or as legal requirements change. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
