Adhered stone veneer wall assembly — framed-wall layer stack in section
On framing, adhered veneer needs the full stack — two WRB layers, lath, scratch coat, setting bed, and a weep screed — and bonds directly with no air gap. Over sound concrete or CMU you can direct-bond and drop the lath, scratch coat, and WRB.
What this diagram shows
A vertical section through adhered stone veneer on a wood-framed wall, layered from inside to outside: stud framing, sheathing, two layers of water-resistive barrier, self-furring metal lath, a half-inch scratch coat, a setting bed, and the stone. A weep screed and a minimum four-inch clearance above earth are shown at the base. Adhered veneer bonds directly to the scratch coat with no air gap and no ties, unlike anchored brick veneer. Over sound concrete or CMU the stone can be direct-bonded, dropping the lath, scratch coat, WRB, and weep screed.
