HardiePlank blind-nail detail — the fastener the next course hides
HardiePlank is blind-nailed: the fastener sits about 3/8″ from the top edge of each plank and the next course laps over it (headlap ≥1¼″), so the head is concealed with no exposed hole — face nailing through the plank face is permitted only where high-wind tables require it.
What this diagram shows
A section through two lap-siding courses on sheathing and a stud. A blind nail is driven about 3/8 inch from the top edge of the lower course into the stud, and the next course laps over that top edge with a headlap of at least 1¼ inches, concealing the nail head so there is no exposed hole. A contrasting red face nail is shown driven through the exposed face of the plank, labeled as permitted only in high-wind regions.
