A dehumidifier manages humidity, not bulk water — fix the source first
Standing water or seepage is a drainage problem: grade away, extend downspouts, add a drain and sump first — then a dehumidifier holds 30–50% RH.
What this diagram shows
Two basement wall-and-floor sections. The left red one runs a dehumidifier while water seeps through the foundation wall and pools on the floor, which it cannot keep up with. The right green one fixes the source first — soil graded away, a downspout extension, a footing drain and sump — so the dehumidifier only has to hold the air at 30 to 50 percent relative humidity.
