What this diagram shows

Five mini wall elevations side by side comparing the classic wainscoting styles, each drawn between a top cap and a baseboard. Board and batten shows evenly spaced vertical battens across an open field. Flat panel (Shaker) shows a stile-and-rail frame around a single flat recessed panel. Raised panel shows the same frame but with the panel proud of the frame, drawn with a beveled chamfer. Picture-frame (box) shows applied double-line moulding boxes floating on the wall. Beadboard shows a field of many thin vertical grooves under the cap. The takeaway is that board and batten is just one style of wainscoting, and that flat panel and raised panel share the identical stile-and-rail frame — only the field differs, recessed versus proud.
