Panels are counted by 4-ft columns × sheet-height rows (captures rip waste), and hang on a required 3/8″ rainscreen gap — never tight to the WRB.

What this diagram shows

A wall elevation of vertical fiber-cement panels laid out in four 4-foot columns and two sheet-height rows, with battens over each vertical joint. Sheet count equals columns times rows, where columns is the wall width divided by 4 rounded up and rows is the wall height divided by the sheet length rounded up — which counts the rip cuts that area division misses. A plan-section inset shows the required 3/8-inch capillary break (rainscreen furring) between the water-resistive barrier and the panel.
