HardiePanel vertical joints — land on a stud, then caulk or batten

Vertical panel seams must fall on a stud, then close with either a caulked gap over flashing or a batten / H-mold. The joint method drives the batten and trim count.

What this diagram shows

A horizontal section looking down through two fiber-cement panels meeting over a stud. Option A leaves a small gap between panels, sealed with caulk over joint flashing behind. Option B covers the seam with a batten or PVC H-molding. In both cases the vertical joint falls on framing — panels cannot be seamed in the middle of a stud bay. Which method you pick sets how many battens or trim pieces the calculator counts.
